Save the Date! Attend Empty Bowls 2015: A Focus on International Women’s Day!

Help fight hunger by attending Empty Bowls 2015: A focus on International Women’s Day on Thursday, March 19th. There will be two meal times, 11:30-2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the Center Room! Hunger is everywhere; locally, nationally and internationally, and this year’s event focuses on how women are disproportionately affected by this issue. Empty bowls is a collaboration of the Office of Civic Engagement, 7th Street Studio, International Student Services, Women’s Resource Center, Parkhurst Dining Services, and local restaurants. Pillowcases for a good cause! Help at the Milton Food Bank! Spring Break Trips!

Learn to sew! Make a pillowcase for a great cause! Sunday February 22, 1-4pm Using colorful patterned fabric, participants will make a pillowcase to be donated to a local children’s hospital. Medical professionals and parents agree that the pillowcases lessen the anxiety that many children suffer during their stay. There is no charge to participate but all donations will be used to purchase more fun, colorful fabric! If you have fabric that you think would make a great pillowcase for a kid. Bucknell Brigade Cultural Dinner and Empty Bowls

Save the Date for two great fundraisers! The Bucknell Brigade is hosting its first ever Nicaraguan Cultural Dinner. The dinner will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2015 in Larison Dining Room. The event will take place from 6:00-8:00 pm and tickets can be purchased at the Campus Box Office ($10 Student, $15 Other). Come join us for a traditional Nicaraguan meal, catered by The Kitchen Witch, and enjoy presentations from current Brigadistas and students from the Jewish Heritage trip to Cuba. Keep warm by volunteering for the Plunge or Snow Fest! Sandy Relief Trip!

- The Office of Civic Engagement is planning a spring break trip to New York to help with Super Storm Sandy recovery efforts. We will only be able to take 14 volunteers in the expedition from Saturday, March 7, to Saturday, March 14. We will be rebuilding damaged houses so that displaced families can come home. No experience is necessary. If you are interested in this trip, please consider attending an INFORMATION SESSION 4-5 pm, Thursday, January 29 in Walls Lounge. – The Involvement and Community Service Fair will be on Wednesday, January 21st from 5:30-7:00 in the Terrace Room. Come talk to local agencies about their volunteer opportunities. – Volunteers are needed to assist with various aspects of the Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, February 7th from 12:30-4:00 p.m. The plunge is downtown at the St. George Street ramp (5 minute walk from campus). - Consider putting together a Turkey and Trimmings Basket for a local family! This basket (or other sturdy container) should have items like canned vegetables, stuffing, mashed potatoes, etc. Please include enough to feed at least a family of 4. - Volunteers are needed on Wednesday November 5 from 4-6pm at at the CWC food pantry, located at 363 Stamm road in Milton. Please arrive 20 minutes early for a short instruction. Please wear close toe shoes and dress warm because during distribution the doors are opening a lot and it’s hard to keep the rooms warm this time of year. Welcome Back from Fall Break!

The Lewisburg Prison Project is planning a fall Highway clean-up on Saturday October 18th, 10:30am, plan on 2 hours of volunteering. Meet at Dunkin Donuts, at the corner of HWY 15 and North 4th Street (before you get to the Weis, Dunkin Donuts is on the right hand side, 1 mile north of campus on HWY 15). Please wear warm, basic clothes as they might get a bit muddy/dirty. Gloves, vests and bags will be provided.  Free Dunkin Donuts for helping!
