Hurricane Katrina Trip, soccer refs, Miller Center and more!

Applications are now available for the Fall 2018 Katrina Recovery Team trip service-learning trip to New Orleans! This year’s trip will take place over Thanksgiving Break, from Saturday, November 17, through Saturday, November 24. Despite being 13 years after the storm, there is an incredible amount of housing restoration to be accomplished, and we are excited to once again be working with the award-winning SBP disaster recovery group. Trip cost subsidies are available for students requiring financial assistance.

It is recommended that anyone interested in applying for the trip attend one of three information sessions, where we will provide full details about the experience:

– Friday, September 21 – 12:00 to 1:00 in Bertrand 213 (Traditional Reading Room)

– Tuesday, September 25 – 12:00 to 1:00 in Academic West 114

Applications are available online at and are due by 4:30 pm on Friday, September 28. Please contact Kyle Bray at with any questions!

– The Lewisburg Community Garden is very close to campus and will host open volunteer hours next week every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m as weather permits. Consider volunteering alone, or with a group of your friends. Kids are welcome. Please dress appropriately for working outside (closed-toe shoes, clothes that can get dirty, layers of clothes to stay warm or sunblock and hat to stay cool) and bring a water bottle. Volunteers are welcome to come and go as their schedule allows – it is not necessary to stay the entire time, and any help is appreciated! The garden is located on the Southeast Corner of the North Water Street and St. Anthony’s Street intersection, near Wolfe Field and the Street of Shops. Please contact Jen Partica at with questions, or to sign up to volunteer!

Lewisburg AYSO is in need of volunteer referees at our site, Riverwoods AYSO Field, about a mile from the University. We need referees primarily for 8U-14U. Our “part 1” season starts the weekend (Saturday’s only) after Labor Day and typically ends on the last weekend in October (again, Saturday’s only). Typically the season is Sept/October in Fall and April-May in Spring. Training is provided and each week there are plenty of slots to fill. If you could help ref or assist games each week with our current crew that would be fantastic. For each game you ref you will accumulate a $10 B&N/Amazon gift card which we keep track of and distribute at the end of the season. We sign up to ref games through

We also require you are registered by PA and FBI for child clearance protection reasons. We will pay for your FBI clearance upon receipt. The PA clearances are free. Information can be found at To sign up contact John at
