The Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA is looking for volunteers to assist with our 2nd grade Safe Swim Program at the Milton & Sunbury YMCA’s. This program was designed to develop basic water safety skills and strokes which will keep our children safe in the water.
The GSV YMCA partners with the Lewisburg, Milton, Shikellamy and Line Mountain School Districts and each school year EVERY second grader in each of those districts receives an 8 week swim lesson as part of their school curriculum! Over 1,500 second graders have been through the program since it began. In our river communities’ in the Susquehanna Valley, children are exposed to water – whether it is the river, backyard pools, or farm ponds we need to teach these lifesaving skills to all of our children to keep them safe!
At the Milton YMCA volunteers are needed Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 11:45am -1:15pm and/or 1:30pm – 3:00pm.
At the Sunbury YMCA volunteers are needed Mondays and/or Wednesdays from 11:30am – 1:30pm and Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 11:45am – 2:00pm.
Volunteers will help with the instruction in the pool. Training is provided to all volunteers. Volunteers must have their clearances completed. If interested please contact Kristy Truitt-Reichner, YMCA Aquatics Director, by email kreichner@gsvymca.org or by phone 570.286.5636.
